Zynga, the publisher behind FarmVille Announces the Launch of its First Ethereum-Based Game, Sugartown this year

One of the most exciting elements in the world of cryptocurrency is the convergence of the gaming industry and blockchain technology. The community experiences a fun and playful medium of generating passive income by participating on such platforms. 

Zynga, the firm behind popular mobile games like FarmVille and Words with Friends has announced the launch of its first blockchain-based game, Sugartown, later this year. The games will be built on the Ethereum network and will utilize its non-fungible tokens (NFTs).  

Zynga’s Story

Zynga is one of the global leaders in producing social video game services. It was founded in early 2007 by Mark Pincus with a vision that in times to come play would be one of the major activities in the internet. The company focused on the idea of connecting the world through games and started its journey by creating a social poker game on launch on the Facebook platform.

Zynga was the pioneer in launching the social poker game involving real people which soon landed being one of the largest online poker games in the world. The company’s reputation in the market grew rapidly with its other games like FarmVille and Words with Friends and today, it is one of the largest developers of mobile games in the West. The company was acquired last year by Take-Two Interactive, publisher of Grand Auto Theft who signalled their plans to work collaboratively on blockchain games in the future.

Zynga’s Ethereum-Based Game, Sugartown

After captivating the world’s interest with its social video game, Zynga is set on a mission to intersect the gaming world with blockchain technology. Zynga resorted to Twitter to announce its first Web3 game, Sugartown, which is lined up to launch later this year. The game is powered by the Ethereum network and plans to utilize its NFTs. 

In Sugartown, the virtual players will explore the fun-filled city created by the creatures called Oras. According to the storyline, three farm animals have opened a wormhole, allowing creatures called Oras from another dimension to turn Sugartown into an exciting gamified world.

The players are required to own an Ora NFT to access the game and also play free minigames within the Sugartown. They can also stake their Ora NFTs to earn Sugar which is a non-crypto in-game currency. 

The company’s Vice President of Web3 Games, Matt Wolf, stated their intention to appeal to the native Web3 market with Sugartown and also added their ambition of scaling over time by building a robust community of holders enjoying the Sugartown experience. 

Zynga’s entry into the world of blockchain through its Ethereum NFT games, Sugartown marks a significant evolution in the gaming industry. Zynga is a household name in the gaming industry, and their decision to create a game to appeal to the Web3 market indicates the wider adoption of blockchain technology in the gaming world. 

The company has major plans of scaling through an engaged and passionate community and attracting more people to blockchain gaming could eventually make it more mainstream.
