Casio Partners with Polygon to Release Virtual G-SHOCK NFTs

The market of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) is growing at an exponential rate attracting a large volume of users with its authenticity and decentralized nature. The recent news on the collaboration of Japanese electronic giant, Casio with Polygon, one of the leading blockchain platforms shows the company’s intent to tap into this growing sector to offer a unique user experience.  As per the partnership, Casio will be launching virtual G-SHOCK watches on the Polygon network, inviting the users to actively participate in the designing and voting on its appearance. This convergence between the fashion and technology industries can be seen as a step forward in the wider adoption of blockchain technology.

Casio’s Virtual G-SHOCK NFT Project

The latest news on the collaboration of Casio with one of the most prominent Ethereum scaling solutions, Polygon, is a significant milestone for the crypto and NFT market. Casio will be launching a virtual G-SHOCK watch on the Polyson network for the users to be a part of the designing and selection process. The company made a statement that the users can claim one of the 15,000 NFT-based G-SHOCK creator passes from the 23rd of September. This would allow them access to the project’s dedicated Discord channel. Even Casio’s existing customers who have registered for Casio ID through the company’s membership site are eligible to participate in the pre-distribution stage which runs from the 23rd to 26th of September. The public distribution phase is lined up from the 26th to the 29th of September.

This major partnership was announced two weeks after the company filed a trademark application with the US Patent and Trademark Office for virtual clothing and watches. The company talked about its intention to leverage the popularity of its shock-resistant watches and cites the impressive achievement of delivering over 100 million of them since its launch in 1983.

Plan of Community Co-creation and Innovation

The most appealing approach to this project is Casio’s community-driven plan. During the project’s initial phase, the company will offer the opportunity to submit the design ideas for G-SHOCK’s creator pass to its users. The users will be allowed to cast their votes on the design and the winning design will be transformed into a variant of NFT pass.

The Senior General Manager of Casio, Takahashi Oh, expressed the company’s goal of working together with the users to establish the G-SHOCK brand. He further stated that they intended to build an accessible, inclusive, and innovative ecosystem and Polygon would deem fit for the work. The company believes Polygon to be the perfect forum for its Web3 venture with its lightning-fast transactions that make the process of minting and managing seamless.

The collaboration between Casio and Polygon is a significant step for both companies. The company confirmed that its collection will be made available to residents of the U.S., UK, India, Italy, Vietnam, Spain, Thailand, Austria, Japan, Germany, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Portugal, the Philippines, and the Netherlands. With a commitment to build a community-driven ecosystem, Casio has also joined hands with major brands like Starbucks, DraftKings, and Adidas to drive their launch on the Polygon network. Casio is not the first to venture into Web3, DraftKing has already launched its NFT marketplace on Polygon in 2021 with Adidas and Prada following the same in 2022.
