Adidas Announces the Launch of its Global Digital Artists Residency Program 

In the integration of fashion, artistry, and technology, Adidas, one the the sportswear and lifestyle giants is expanding its commitment to the NFT space. Adidas Studio, also known as the Three Stripes Studio has recently announced the global launch of its digital artist residency program called Residency by Adidas. The Residency by Adidas program will provide global artists with a platform to showcase their work and collaboration with the streetwear brand and will begin in September during Korea Blockchain Week in Seoul. 

Adidas Digital Artist Residency Program 

Adidas Studio also known by the name Three Stripes Studio is taking the lead in the creative endeavour with its digital artist residency program launched with the aim of bringing the spotlight to digital artists globally by providing them with a unique platform to showcase their talent and collaborate with the sportswear giants, both digitally and physically going forward. Residency by Adidas will begin in September during Korea Blockchain Week in Seoul. This is a pioneer in digital artwork sale and will feature artwork from pseudonymous artists, MonkeeMoto and Adra Kandil, also known as Dear Nostalgia. This event will span both limited edition and open edition Ethereum NFT artwork mints.

MonkeeMoto is Tokyo-based and encompasses a range of game development and digital concept design. On the other hand, Adra Kandil is a Lebanese artist who brings together photography, collage, digital montages, and typography. Adra Kandil has made a reputation for itself through its previous collaborations with Gucci, Chanel, Cartier, and Robert Cavalli.

Aim of Residency by Adidas 

The Global Head of Communication and Activation for Adidas Studios, Stacey King, the digital artist’s residency program marks a significant milestone in the exploration and engagement with the Web3 community.  King further stated the team’s commitment to establishing a robust pathway and platform for some of the coolest and most dynamic artists within the community. The team has also previously indulged in rolling out apparel-connected NFTs and launched those in events in Berlin and New York City. 

Non-Fungible Token (NFT) drop

An Adidas representative stated that to decrypt, the residency program will conduct two different drops: limited edition NFT drop and open edition NFT drop. The limited edition NFT drop will include only 100 works per artist and will be priced at 0.15 ETH which approximately amounts to $250 each. Importantly, this will be available to only the attendees of the Seoul event along with an exclusive physical hoodie. On the other hand, the open edition NFT drop has no limit on the number of pieces that can be purchased during the timeframe and is priced at 0.03 ETH, which is around $50 for anyone to mint. The timeline for both drops is from the 6th of September to the 11th of the same month.

Adidas’s initiative to enter into the NFT space sets itself as an outstanding example in the sportswear industry. Stacey King talks about the project’s promising drops which include digital, physical, and linked drops. These releases will run in parallel with Adidas’s ongoing ALTS Ethereum NFT Initiative. By collaborating with digital artists globally, Adidas Studio is not just expanding the creative horizon but also narrowing the gap between the digital and physical worlds.
