US lawmakers demand the release of Binance executive Tigran Gambaryan from incarceration in Nigeria

After visiting the arrested Binance executive in a Nigerian prison, US legislators demanded that Tigran Gambaryan, who is now under arrest, be freed right away, claiming he is afflicted with pneumonia and malaria.

Reps. Chrissy Houlahan, D-Pa., and French Hill, R-Ark., said that they visited Gambaryan this week. American citizen Gambaryan was arrested in February on charges that Binance was profiting locally from illicit transactions.

Hill said on X on Thursday, “Today, @RepHoulahan and I visited with US citizen Tigran Gambaryan in Kuje Prison in Nigeria.” He told us he had lost a lot of weight and that he had double pneumonia in addition to malaria when we found him there. To make matters worse, he isn’t getting enough medical care.

Hill stated that Gambaryan has devoted his ten years as an Internal Revenue Service Special Agent to the fight against tax evasion and money laundering.

According to Hill, Tigran ought to be given a humanitarian release right once, have the remaining charges against him dropped, and go back to America, where he belongs.

Houlahan claimed that Gambaryan’s prison circumstances were challenging.

Additionally, Houlahan stated in a video that Hill uploaded that he was obviously under a lot of stress and that his health was not good.

The release of Gambaryan has also been demanded by other legislators. In a letter to President Joe Biden earlier this month, Michael McCaul, a Republican from Texas, and fifteen other signatories demanded that Gambaryan be brought back immediately.
