To extend restaking outside Ethereum, Wormhole, EigenLayer, and NEAR-focused Nuffle Labs collaborate

  • Wormhole is developing a way to extend EigenLayer’s restaking capabilities outside of the Ethereum environment in collaboration with blockchain development firm Nuffle Labs.

Wormhole is collaborating with Nuffle Labs, creators of restaking protocols, to find a way to extend EigenLayer’s restaking capabilities outside of the Ethereum ecosystem. The action marks a significant advancement in one of the most popular areas of crypto research and development: sharing the security created by staking to protect several protocols and apps at once.

Without requiring asset bridging, the solution will allow restaking assets straight from any Layer 1 or Layer 2 blockchain by utilizing Wormhole’s message-passing architecture and Nuffle’s NUFF protocol.

Many people in the cryptocurrency business are now very interested in and focused on restaking. To put it briefly, apps can avoid building their own independent security infrastructure by utilizing protocols like EigenLayer, which allow them to pool the protection of already staked assets. The industry enhances proof-of-stake platforms’ effectiveness while potentially opening up new blockchain use cases.

“Actively validated services,” or AVSs, are protocols and applications that share restaked assets and have the ability to establish custom validation rules or tasks. According to several experts, restaking will be crucial for Layer 2 rollups that tap in for extra security and guarantee data availability, as well as for oracles that supply off-chain data to onchain smart contracts.

The Foundation spin-off Nuffle Labs is creating modular blockchain technology, such as the NEAR Data Availability Layer and NEAR Fast Finality Layer, to extend the ecosystem.

AVSs built on EigenLayer’s shared security architecture will be able to access all of the tokens made available through Nuffle’s infrastructure thanks to the relationship with Wormhole.

Our goal is to build an ecosystem where you can do anything from anyplace as each asset is restaked and the industry grows increasingly interconnected. We want to establish a global marketplace for everyone, whether that be through lending, borrowing, or restaking.
