The creator of Worldcoin desires to collaborate with PayPal and OpenAI

  • Tools for Humanity, the company behind Worldcoin, wants to collaborate with PayPal and OpenAI.
  • It’s unclear, though, how far along the collaborations are or what might actually result from them.

In 120 countries, about 5.1 million Worldcoin users scanned their fingerprints to receive the cryptocurrency WLD.

According to Bloomberg, the group behind Worldcoin WLD +0.43%, a cryptocurrency that scans the iris, hopes to work with major players in the internet and banking industries.

Tools for Humanity, the company behind Worldcoin, is keen to collaborate with PayPal, a major player in the payments industry, and OpenAI, an artificial intelligence startup. Bloomberg notes that there is still uncertainty surrounding the collaborations’ specifics and that no firm plans seem to have surfaced as of yet.

In the past, Tools for Humanity collaborated with cybersecurity company Okta Inc. to improve Worldcoin authentication services.

In order to verify that a user is a real person, Worldcoin uses an orb to scan their iris. In return, the user receives the cryptocurrency WLD.

At 11:27 a.m. ET on April 25, WLD was trading at $4.88, having dropped 4.20% in value the previous day. WLD has a market capitalization of $951.9 million and a circulating supply of 195.3 million, according to the cryptocurrency’s The Block price page.

In the summer of 2024, the project intends to launch World Chain, an Ethereum Layer 2. The network wants to improve Worldcoin user onboarding.

As stated by Worldcoin at the time of the introduction, it will be accessible to all users and verified humans will receive priority blockspace over bots in addition to a gas allotment for sporadic transactions.

To maximize growth and take advantage of World ID’s Proof of Personhood, the network will be closely linked with the Worldcoin protocol. Additionally, it will be designed for scalability with the Superchain ecosystem and secured by Ethereum as an L2.

Worldcoin is not accepted everywhere, though. Kenya, Portugal, and Spain have all taken action to prevent Worldcoin from scanning the iris of their people. Nevertheless, the Worldcoin website boasts of over 2,000 orbs produced and approximately 5.1 million sign-ups from 120 countries.

Sam Altman, co-founder and chairman of Tools for Humanity, is also co-chair of OpenAI, the company that created the well-known generative AI ChatGPT.
