The battle royale game “Off the Grid,” about Bitcoin, launches on PlayStation and the Epic Game Store

  • Coinbase game developer Gunzilla Games has made Off the Grid available in early access on the PlayStation 5 and the Epic Game Store.
  • The free-to-play battle royale game Off the Grid will allow users to exchange in-game items, which also function as NFTs.

While clicker games like Notcoin and Hamster Kombat, which are easily accessed through Telegram, have attracted millions of new players, blockchain gaming still has a long way to go.

But on Tuesday, Gunzilla Games released an early-access version of their battle royale video game Off the Grid on Sony’s PlayStation 5 and the Epic Game Store, potentially marking a major advancement for the still-developing web3 gaming industry. According to early trailers, the game has gameplay and visuals on par with AAA titles.

According to Gunzilla, in-game items can be traded by gamers, regardless of whether they are using a PC, Xbox, or PlayStation. The game is available for free. This indicates that the game is set up to become the first onchain title for the PlayStation and Xbox, giving players more control over how they handle their in-game assets. The GUNZ blockchain is used by Gunzilla’s player assets.

According to a statement, GUNZ, which is based on a customized Avalanche L1, gives users complete ownership of in-game assets as tradeable NFTs, giving game developers the tools they need to create player-driven economies.

When players will be able to take use of Off the Grid NFTS trading’s full capabilities is unknown according to Gunzilla.

OpenSea, an NFT marketplace, decided to integrate Gunzilla’s GUNZ blockchain in April. Gunzilla Games stated at the time that the integration of GUNZ into OpenSea will offer a transparent and compliant NFT marketplace for exchanging in-game products. Any game developed on the GUNZ blockchain will allow players and OpenSea users to trade in-game NFT products, and the GUN token will be the only accepted form of payment.

With a link to a game trailer, Oscar-nominated director Neill Blomkamp announced the early-access launch of Off the Grid on X Tuesday.

Gunzilla raised $30 million in an investment round earlier this year that was co-led by CoinFund and Avalanche’s Blizzard Fund. Subsequently, the cryptocurrency venture capital firm Delphi Ventures declared last month that it has grown to be the biggest verifier of the GUNZ blockchain platform and the Gunzilla ecosystem.
