Stride unveils Rollchain Strategy to go modular on Celestia

Stride has unveiled a new strategy which if it passes the governance vote will enable Stride to become the first rollchain to go modular with Celestia. Each Stride block’s data will be uploaded to the Celestia blockchain through a process known as “data posting to Celestia.” 

Thus, all of the information displayed on a blockchain explorer such as Mintscan would be uploaded to Celestia. A Stride validator would have to upload the data once each Stride block was processed.

Stride will install the new Strangelove Labs rollchain module in order to publish data to Celestia. 

With more than one lakh users, and $178M worth of TVL, Stride is a pioneer in liquid staking and has captured a significant share of the market in a short period of time. 

All Celestia rollups will be able to reliably, permissionlessly, and censorship-resistantly access Stride’s data once it is made public on the Celestia blockchain. Therefore, a Celestia rollup may simply find out the supply of an LST, its redemption rate, or the amount of staked tokens that support an LST.

Indexers that use the Celestia blockchain will be able to retrieve Stride LST data once Stride data is made accessible on the network. Bootstrapping nodes and syncing blocks using Stride’s data on Celestia might be feasible. 

Stride will continue to operate in the same way as a rollchain from the user’s perspective. 

The primary modification is that Stride will have improved interoperability with the modular Celestia environment.

The Cosmos L1s are “modularized” into rollchains. They upload blobs of data to Celestia, which can be utilised to ensure the transaction history is unchangeable. Can also be used to provide chain data to indexers of Celestia; bootstrap nodes or to sync blocks.

Stride created the world’s first Layer 1 blockchain designed specifically for liquid staking and to use interchain accounts (ICA), a ground-breaking concept that allowed fully decentralised liquid staking for Cosmos blockchains for the first time.

Subsequently, Stride created additional history in June 2023 when it became the first operational blockchain to switch to interchain security (ICS). Implementing ICS significantly improved the Stride blockchain’s security. Stride has grown to be the largest supplier of liquid staking for numerous other tokens, including DYDX, ATOM, OSMO, and TIA.
