- This new device leverages Playtronos, a gaming operating system, to enable several app stores to run simultaneously and directly integrates the Sui blockchain for seamless Web3 gaming experiences.
Mysten Labs, known for developing the proof-of-stake blockchain project Sui, has revealed its plans to launch Suiplay0x1, a gaming handheld with Web3 capabilities. While specific hardware details remain under wraps, the device will be capable of running multiple app stores simultaneously, thanks to Playtron’s Playtronos—a device-agnostic gaming operating system.
Additionally, Suiplay0x1 will integrate directly with Sui, offering low transaction fees and fast processing times tailored to gaming.
Pioneering the Web3 Gaming Market
Mysten Labs is venturing into the Web3 gaming hardware market with Suiplay0x1. The announcement was made during Sui Basecamp, a gathering of the Sui community in Paris. This innovative handheld console aims to provide a unified gaming experience with various app stores available on a single device.
Suiplay0x1 runs on Playtronos, a lightweight operating system designed specifically for gaming handhelds. Playtron, the company behind Playtronos, secured $10 million in seed funding in March and plans to establish an integrated gaming ecosystem combining native games with titles from other app stores.
The handheld console will also feature direct integration with Sui, allowing developers to leverage the benefits of Web3 and Sui’s fast, low-cost transactions within the gaming ecosystem. Adeniyi Abiodun, co-founder of Sui, emphasized that the device will enable game developers to fully utilize Sui’s capabilities and Web3 gaming potential, saying, “We’ve already built a chain that scales and can handle gaming-level traffic.
Sui can become part of that meta layer that allows game publishers to benefit their ecosystem with direct ownership of assets.”
Looking Ahead to 2025
While specifics on the hardware of Suiplay0x1 have yet to be disclosed, Mysten Labs has already signed up 70 games incorporating Sui integration. Although no official launch date has been provided, the company anticipates that the console will be available in stores worldwide by 2025.
Mysten Labs joins the ranks of other crypto companies delving into the hardware industry, such as Solana Mobile. Solana’s Saga, the company’s first Web3-enabled phone, debuted in 2023, followed by the announcement of its successor, Chapter 2, this year. Mysten Labs’ entrance into the hardware market signifies a growing trend among blockchain projects to expand into the consumer technology sector.
Exciting Future for Web3 Gaming
The introduction of Suiplay0x1 marks an exciting advancement in the Web3 gaming world. Mysten Labs’ foray into hardware underscores the growing convergence of blockchain and consumer technology, creating a platform for developers to bring their games to life with innovative features. As anticipation builds for the console’s launch in 2025, gamers and developers alike can look forward to a new era of decentralized gaming experiences.
