Kakao and LINE’s Layer 1 blockchain introduces its mainnet and encourages Telegram-like applications

  • The massive chat apps Kakao and LINE’s Layer-1 blockchain, Kaia, announced the debut of its mainnet.
  • 96% of South Koreans use the Kakao messenger software, whereas LINE is the most popular messenger in Japan.
  • On LINE Messenger, Kaia developers will be able to create apps that resemble Telegram.

The Layer-1 blockchain Kaia, which powers two of the most popular messaging apps in Asia, has announced that its mainnet launch will take place on Wednesday at 10 p.m. Eastern time.

The press statement stated, “On August 29, the Kaia mainnet will go live as the fastest EVM blockchain in the world with one-second finality, ultra-low gas fees, and support from leading Asian web3 partners including Kakao and LINE NEXT.”

In April, Kaia was unveiled as part of a merger between Finschia from LINE and Klaytn from Kakao. 96% of South Koreans use the IM program Kakao, and LINE is the most popular messaging service in Taiwan, Thailand, and Japan. According to the news announcement, there are over 250 million users combined across the two programs.

The Layer-1 blockchain’s close connection with the Kakao and LINE messaging apps is expected to address issues with web3’s user experience and dissemination. In the end, it wants to create an environment that can support web3-based chat apps, games, real-world assets, and DeFi.

Kaia aims to provide a “Telegram-style native app integration” to LINE messenger by enabling developers to construct small dApps using its NEXT WEB software development kit (SDK).

“Leveraging Kaia’s low TX latency, account abstraction, and fee delegation features, developers can create end-to-end seamless UX while extending their reach to hundreds of millions of LINE users across Asia,” as per release.

Alongside the mainnet launch is a builder support program called Kaia Wave. Teams that meet the eligibility requirements and use the NEXT WEB SDK will get $1.2 million in commercial, technical, and marketing support. Future token generation occasions and liquidity support are extra advantages.
