The game, which was co-created by Neil Blomkamp, the sci-fi film director behind popular shows like District 9 and Elysium, has garnered some attention on Twitch thanks to a collaboration with Tyler “Ninja” Blevins.
The game includes a cosmetic skin that is modeled after the streamer and was inspired by a feature from the controversial streamer Dr. Disrespect.
According to analytics website TwitchTracker, the game is now ranked #32 in popularity among all games being streamed on Twitch.
Notably, the Avalanche Subnet GUNZ, created specifically for the game by its developer Gunzilla, powers Off The Grid’s digital currency.
According to a press release, the blockchain network, which is presently in test mode, is…tailored to allow smooth gameplay, use only in-game tokens for gas payments, and offer an easy-to-use, satisfying user experience for both Web3 and conventional players.
Players can buy and trade in-game items, which are represented as NFTs, using the in-game GUN token in the game. This gives players total control over the items they own in the game. Still pending is the complete rollout of the crypto features; for now, the token can only be used as in-game money.
Gunzilla intends to provide other game companies access to the GUNZ network so they can use its SDK and other features, including the marketplace and companion app that are integrated in, to start their own projects. The press release hints that more GUNZ-based projects will be revealed soon.
