- Ethereum layer-2 network of Coinbase Base is now the new place to spend your virtual currency through the BSMNT platform and the B3.fun gaming chain.
The web-based cryptocurrency arcade BSMNT, also known as Basement, made its debut on Thursday in conjunction with the B3 gaming network launch.enjoyable—both are based on the Ethereum layer-2 network Base of Coinbase, which is the foundation for growing gaming activity on the chain.
BSMNT gamers are encouraged to connect their wallet before “minting” the games they wish to play. The games are crypto-fied takes of well-known Web3 titles like Nifty Island and Mighty Action Heroes, as well as hugely popular Web2 games like Breakout and Crossy Road.
B3.fun, a fresh Ethereum gaming network constructed on top of Base, is the home of BSMNT.fun. Although it isn’t formally referred to as a layer-3 network, it has traits with other layer-3 networks, such Xai, the Ethereum gaming chain constructed on top of layer-2 Arbitrum technology.
The purpose of layer-2 networks is to increase scalability and eliminate some of the drawbacks that layer-1 networks, such as Ethereum, might have. Overlaying a layer-3 gives developers even more control over the functionality and allows for even more fine-tuning of this process.
Notably, the Xai network maintains the fundamental features of Arbitrum while modifying some elements to enhance the experience for game producers, such more control over gas prices and other parameters.
With Xai’s game releases, it hopes to become the Ethereum gaming version of Valve, positioning itself more as a publisher than a conventional network. The firm behind Aavegotchi just revealed this week that it will be launching Geist, a members-only layer-3 gaming chain that utilizes both Base and Arbitrum technology.
B3, developed by NPC Labs, a GameFi infrastructure startup, with major contributions from ChainSafe, a blockchain research and development firm, aims to put the gaming experience first. The network attempts to remove the typical pain points for developers creating games that run on Ethereum, Base, and other Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) chains, like Avalanche.
A release claims that B3 can also effortlessly onboard games from other chains, such as The Open Network and Solana. Moreover, NFC Labs, which was established by former Coinbase staff members, has the money to attempt to make it happen after unveiling a $21 million fundraising campaign in July.
The Base network of Coinbase is beginning to interact with cryptocurrency games more with the launch of B3 and BSMNT.fun. The exchange gave out free money and goods for the Ethereum trading card game Parallel in March. Atari has just introduced a throwback arcade on the layer-2 network a few weeks ago, where gamers compete for rewards through a weekly scoreboard.
