Before the scheduled token burn, the US government exchanges Aragon’s ANT tokens for ETH

  • Arkham Research reports that ANT tokens that were confiscated from Alameda Research have been sold by the U.S. government. The wallet hasn’t moved money in over two years until now.
  • AragonDAO decided to collapse and convert ANT to ETH till early November of last year.

According to Arkham Research, tokens taken from Sam Bankman-Fried’s now-defunct hedge fund Alameda Research have been sold by the US government. The wallet, which has over $974,000 worth of cryptocurrency, hasn’t moved money in almost two years.

Government authorities used the AragonDAO ANT token redemption address to dump more than 82,000 tokens that were confiscated from the company, according to onchain data. Aragon’s governance token is called ANT.

The non-profit Aragon Association in Switzerland decided to dissolve in November 2023 and sell ANT tokens for 86,343 ETH, which was worth 155 million at the time. The deadline for users to exchange their ANT tokens is November 2, 2024.

All ANT tokens will be burnt after redemption because holding ANT does not serve any use going forward.

The action started when the U.S. government’s wallet, which was used to separate monies taken from Alameda, was funded by an address that started with 0xb0692. AragonDAO has so far given the US government 209.199 ETH, which is equivalent to $556,000.

Prior to that transaction, Coinbase sent 0.003 ETH ($7.03) to the government’s address, most likely to cover gas costs.
