- The Proof of Play Apex chain handles more daily transactions than any other Ethereum Layer 2 network, surpassing only Base and Arbitrum.
The PIRATE coin will be introduced by Pirate Nation, a onchain role-playing game (RPG) built on Arbitrum Orbit and operating on its own Layer 3 blockchain, on Thursday. Players have been getting more active in preparation of this milestone.
We’re thrilled. Teammate and “Head Booty Dealer” Dith told The Defiant that PIRATE will be useful from day one in the game (we just released jewels online, but they can’t be purchased until after the airdrop claim). We’re also going to release more information regarding staking soon.
When the first season of the game’s “Booty Points” campaign came to a conclusion on June 8, daily transactions on the Apex chain reached an all-time high of 1.46 million. These points can be exchanged for PIRATE token distributions.
A dashboard kept up to date by rollup provider Conduit shows that the Apex chain’s transaction throughput is currently higher than that of all other Ethereum Layer 2 networks, with the exception of Base and Arbitrum.
Proof of Play, a game studio helmed by a16z and Greenoaks in a seed round last year, raised $33 million to develop Pirate Nation and Apex.
The game revolves around pirate characters, as the name implies, who can be dispatched on different missions to gather materials needed to make new things like ships. Playing Pirate Nation is free. On the other hand, a Founder’s Pirate grants superior skills.
Of the 1 billion tokens that PIRATE will issue, 47% will go toward community projects like the upcoming airdrop and upcoming point seasons. The remaining 13.25% is set up for ecosystem development, with the team receiving 28% and investors receiving 11.75%.
