A new White House position centered on crypto policy is being considered by Trump’s team: Bloomberg

According to Bloomberg, the team of President-elect Donald Trump is thinking of establishing a position in the White House dedicated to crypto policy for the first time.

According to people familiar with the situation, Bloomberg reported on Wednesday that the Trump team is interviewing potential applicants for the position. 

Whether the role would be more akin to a senior staff role at the White House or to that of a “crypto czar,” Bloomberg reported, is unclear.

With his pledges to abolish U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission Chair Gary Gensler, commute Silk Road founder Ross Ulbricht’s life sentence, establish a Crypto Presidential Advisory Council, and establish a national strategic bitcoin reserve, Trump embraced cryptocurrency during the previous year’s election season.

Following the election, Trump appointed executives who supported cryptocurrencies to senior roles.

Recently, the Trump team has been contacted by executives in the cryptocurrency sector. According to The New York Times, which cited people familiar with the discussions, Circle officials have also engaged with Trump’s transition team, and Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse has discussed personnel appointments with Trump’s close associates.

According to Fortune, which cited sources familiar with the conversation, Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong called Trump to discuss cryptocurrency in general and who would be appointed to head the SEC and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.
