With 8.8 million daily transactions on its network, Base has hit yet another record high and is at the forefront of the hopeful rollup ecosystem, all the while maintaining robust growth metrics across a number of indicators.
The volume of transactions on rival networks increased as well; Optimism and Arbitrum recorded 900,000 and 2.5 million transactions, respectively.
With net inflows of $227 million over the last seven days, Base’s Total Value Locked (TVL) is now $3.6 billion, surpassing Solana’s $71 million for the same time frame.
The increasing interest in AI agent protocols, especially the Virtuals platform, seems to be the main cause of the activity spike:
- A decentralized platform called Virtuals Protocol makes it possible to create, co-own, and profit from AI agents in a variety of online contexts, such as social media, gaming, and entertainment.
- Two noteworthy projects in the Virutals ecosystem that use AI-powered agents that users may interact with are AIXBT and LUNA.
The expansion of Base is indicative of more general patterns in Layer 2 innovation:
- TVL and increasing transaction counts both point to long-term ecosystem growth that goes beyond speculative activity.
- Including AI capabilities could create a new story for user engagement and Layer 2 difference.
Freysa AI, an agent designed to never give the customer money, is another noteworthy example. Nevertheless, a user managed to finish the challenge and take out $47,000 worth of cryptocurrency.
195 players participated in the Freysa AI challenge, making 482 attempts, indicating a high level of interest in AI agent mechanics. During the challenge, the platform introduced a new business model for AI-crypto interactions by implementing incremental query fees. Since similar techniques can be used to take control of or influence other AI agents, the Freysa AI event brings to light possible security issues in AI-driven protocols.
